Fungal nail infection - FAQ

My nail has a fungal nail infection. How long will it take to get rid of the fungal nail infection?

Excilor should be used until a healthy nail has regrown, this can take 6 - 12 months depending on where the fungal nail infection is and the time it takes your nail to regrow. On average a toe nail grows 1.5mm in one month. Excilor Pen and Solution should be applied twice per day. Excilor Ultra should be applied once per day.

My child put the Excilor® product in his/her mouth. What should I do?

The product's contents are not toxic but may irritate the mucous lining of the eyes, nose or mouth. If the product comes into contact with the eyes or inside of the mouth, rinse using plenty of water. If Excilor accidentally comes into contact with the mucous lining of the eyes, nose or mouth, contact the Poisons Information Line on 13 11 26.

The instructions advised me to “clean the nail and remove any traces of nail polish” before each application. Can I simply clean the nail with soap and water or should I always use nail polish remover?

Remove nail polish before applying Excilor fungal nail treatment products. If Excilor is used on nail polish, it can partially dissolve the nail polish – this in turn contaminates the product so it no longer works properly. Additionally, Excilor is unable to penetrate nail polish as effectively compared to use on a clean nail.

Warts - FAQ

What is cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is based on the technique that is used by general practitioners to remove a wart. It freezes the tissue of the wart by applying a very low temperature (-45℃). The body is then able to clear the virus and the wart is removed.

What is gel treatment?

The most commonly used over-the-counter products to remove warts exert their effect based on their acidic nature. TCA-ActiveTM is a uniquely formulated gel containing a caustic/corrosive agent that causes coagulation of cellular proteins, inducing destruction of keratotic tissue.

How does Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment work?

Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment is a Self-Care Medical Device for an effective and fast-acting treatment of common warts and foot warts. Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment consists of a combination of 2 products. The blue cryo reservoir contains a freezing agent ( Cryo-Active™) and the white gel applicator contains a treatment gel (TCA-Active™), combining cryotherapy and gel treatment in one device. Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment combines the 2 most common wart treatments for faster results. By rapidly freezing (-45 ℃) the core of the wart and peeling of the infected skin, the thickened skin of the wart and its causative virus are removed and new healthy skin will appear.

What are the active ingredients of Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment?

The Active Medical Ingredients in Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment are Cryo-Active™ (freezing agent) and TCA-Active™ (based on Trichloroacetic Acid).

How successful is the product when used during 1 treatment cycle (= 5 days)?

It has been shown that after one treatment cycle, Cryo Acid 2-Compartment effectively removes 62.5% of the warts. After three treatment cycles, 87.5% of the warts have been shown to be effectively removed.

How is this product different/better than other products on the market?

This product is a combination of the most effective over-the-counter treatments for warts currently available: cryotherapy with Cryo-Active™ and gel treatment with TCA-Active™. Combining both therapies in one treatment cycle shows an improved success rate compared with therapy with either treatment alone.

How long does treatment with Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment take?

One treatment cycle with Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment takes five days. The treatment cycle may be repeated up to three times, if needed. In between each treatment cycle a resting period of four to seven days is recommended.

What is the treatment cycle?

One treatment cycle with Cryo Acid 2-Compartment takes five days. On the first day of treatment only cryotherapy is applied and on the following four days gel treatment is applied twice daily (once daily for children aged 4-12). If the wart is not fully removed, the treatment cycle may be repeated twice after a resting period of 4-7 days.

How often can I use this treatment?

A maximum of three treatment cycles is recommended. If the treated wart does not disappear after three completed cycles, please contact your general practitioner for medical advice.

Which items are in the box?

● One device containing 2 products: one cryo reservoir with foam holder plus foam and one gel applicator

● Foam bag containing 5 foams

● Instructions for Use

How do I prepare for the treatment?

You will need tissues and a timer to perform the treatment. When treating a wart covered by callus, it is advisable to first soak the foot in lukewarm water for 5 minutes and rub the callus carefully with a file prior to the treatment.

How do I open Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment?

Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment consists of two products, for each phase of the treatment cycle. For cryotherapy on day 1, to open product 1, twist the black foam holder from the closed lock symbol towards the open lock symbol as shown in the Instructions for Use.

For the gel treatment on Days 2,3,4,5, to open product 2, twist the white gel applicator to align the drop symbol with the open lock symbol. Once separated, you turn the dial of the gel applicator clockwise as indicated in the Instructions for Use.

How do I avoid exposure of healthy skin to Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment?

The foam provided allows precise application to the wart only. Before applying the gel treatment, an ointment such as vaseline can be used to protect the surrounding skin.

What do I do when I accidentally exposed healthy skin to Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment?

When healthy skin is exposed to cryotherapy, a frostbite may develop. This can be mildly painful but typically heals without medical intervention. When healthy skin is exposed to the gel treatment, rinse the complete area with excessive water and soap and re-apply the gel to the wart only.

Can I let the treated area get wet?

Wait for 10-15 minutes before exposing the treated area to water or otherwise.

Can I expose the treated skin to sunlight?

To avoid skin hyper- or hypo-pigmentation which may occur because of sunlight exposure, do not expose the skin to sunlight for 4 to 6 weeks.

What is the best way to take care of the treated area?

It is important to keep the treated area clean and do not touch or pick the treated skin, because a wart is contagious. Do not peel off the scab as it needs to fall off by itself. If a blister forms, do not puncture it.

How can I determine if the wart has been fully removed?

To verify whether the wart has been removed, you could soak the treated area in lukewarm water for 5 minutes and rub the calls carefully with a file. If the skin does not show little black dots (little blood vessels, typical for a wart), the wart has been removed. During the treatment, a layer of callus (hardened skin layer) will form. The callus is not a wart. The callus might need a couple of weeks to wear before the optimal result is seen. Renewed skin will appear smoother, slightly pink and regain its natural colour within subsequent weeks.

Can a successfully treated wart re-appear?

Treatment with Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment removes the tissue that is affected by the underlying virus infection that causes warts to occur. The body is then better capable of eliminating the virus.

How many warts can I treat at once?

When used for the first time, treat only one wart before treating multiple warts, to experience the effect on your skin. Start treating another wart only if you did not experience any side effects (normally within 5 days).

If there are multiple warts close to one another (within 1 cm), wait until the skin has returned to normal before treating another wart (this can take up to 6 weeks).

Are there any side effects to expect?
  • Complications are infrequent. It is extremely rare that a permanent mark or scar will occur. This could mostly be related to an abnormality such as healing disorders or infection. If so, please consult your general practitioner.
  • As with all freezing methods, the skin may turn white temporarily.
  • Application of the freezing agent may cause a stinging, itching, aching feeling during and after freezing that quickly decreases after the area thaws.
  • Overexposure to the freezing product could cause damage to the top layers of the skin, resulting in scars and/or may lead to nerve damage.
Can Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment be used by diabetics?

Please consult your treating physician before starting treatment with Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment if you are diabetic.

Can I use Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment when pregnant?

If you accidentally ingest the gel, please consult the emergency department of the hospital.

If one of the ingredients accidentally comes in contact with the eye or mucosal tissue, what should I do?

In case the gel accidentally comes in contact with eyes or mucosal membranes, rinse with plenty of water and seek medical assistance.

When should Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment not be used?
  • If the wart is located on an area other than the hand or foot;
  • On a bleeding, irritated, inflamed skin or skin showing any sign of inflammation such as itch or swelling;
  • On skin tags, moles, dark patches of skin, freckles, water warts (mollusca contagiosa), seborrhoeic keratosis (verruca seborrhoica), or exfoliated skin;
  • If you have any doubt if the condition is a wart;
  • If you are hypersensitive to one of the ingredients.
Is treatment with Excilor 2in1 Warts Treatment painful?

In general, cryotherapy (on Day 1 of the treatment cycle only) is not considered painful when applied to affected skin, but may cause some transient unpleasantness or stinging sensation.

During the clinical study performed by Medical Brands, the participants indicated on average to experience very mild pain during and after treatment. Application of gel treatment (Day 2-5) may cause minor short-lasting skin irritation. This should be resolved before the next gel application.
